Brad Shores grew up in Goodland, Kansas and got his BA in Music Education at Fort Hays State University in 1983.  After teaching the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps for a year, he moved to Phoenix to work in the Paradise Valley School District.  While in Phoenix, he discovered the pan and began working around town as a steel drum musician.  After moving back to Kansas in 1989, Brad began an 11 year term as Band instructor at Nickerson High School and also started the family band , “Tropical Shores Steel Drum Band” as well as the first high school steel drum band in Kansas.  He also started the first WGI drum line in Kansas called “Rebel Drums” from 1997-2000.

He currently is head band instructor at Haven High School and teaches steel drum band, guitar, band, jazz band and marching band.  He serves as a clinician judge and arranger for many types of groups in and around Kansas.

As a percussionist and composer, Eugene Novotney has performed and presented lectures and master classes in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Africa. He is recognized internationally as a composer of contemporary percussion music, and his compositions are widely performed as standards of the literature. His snare drum composition, A Minute of News (The Noble Snare), has been used as the test piece for numerous snare drum competitions, including the Concours International de Caisse Claire - Conservatoire National de Region de Paris (2004 & 2007; Paris, France), the VIII Jornadas Internacionales de Percussion de Ribarroja del Turia (2006; Valencia, Spain), the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Modern Snare Drum Competition (2008; Atlanta, Georgia), the Concorso Internazionale per Strumenti a Percussione e Batteria (2009; Fermo, Italy), and others. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Eugene Novotney received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Percussion from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and his Master of Music Degree & Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Illinois, with emphasis in Percussion, Composition, and Ethnomusicology.  In addition to his formal western music studies, he has studied..... Jeff Neitzke is currently adjunct percussion instructor at both Ashland University and The University of Mount Union.  He is also the artistic director of the Canton Symphony Steel Drum and Percussion programs, a series of community and after-school programs sponsored by the Canton Symphony Orchestra. 

Along with his many teaching responsibilities, Jeff is also an active performer.  He has been a member of such steel bands as Hamilton Street Pan Groove and I-Pan Steel Groove, and is currently a member of both the 7-Mile Isle Steel Band and the Akron Pan Collective.  In 2002 Jeff traveled to Trinidad and performed with Phase II Pan Groove in the Trinidad National Steel Band Finals during Trinidad’s Panorama Competition.  In 2006 he traveled to New York to perform as a guest artist for the NYU Steel Band Concert.  In 2008 Jeff was a performer on the PASIC focus day, performing the steel drum duet “We Shall Overcome,” by David Macbride with fellow pan player Murray Mast.  Jeff is also active in music outside the steel drum realm.  He has played for such symphonies as The Illinois Symphony, Sinfonia Da Camera, The Champaign-Urbana Symphony, The Akron Symphony, and is currently Principal Timpanist of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra. Jesse Ayers has had his music performed in Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, and over 85 U.S. cities, and has twice had his music selected by the International Society of Contemporary Music to represent the United States at the prestigious World Music Days festival (Slovenia 2003 and Warsaw 1992).

Bradford Ralston is a dynamic young composer with a diverse background in percussion performance and music composition.  While earning a Bachelor of Music degree in music composition and theory from the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, he studied composition with renowned classical composers such as Dr. Michael Kurek and Dr. Stan Link.

His experience in percussion performance is marked by two national tours playing snare with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, and four years as an active member in the Vanderbilt Steel Drum Band under the direction of Mat Britain, in addition to numerous performances with the Blair Percussion Ensemble and various other ensembles at the Blair School of Music.  He has studied percussion and jazz drumset with distinguished drummers and percussionists such as Bill Wiggins, John R. Beck, Michael Holland, Tommy Giampietro, and Brian Tinkle, and has taught drums and percussion lessons at the W. O. Smith School of Music in Nashville, TN, as well as privately in Winston-Salem, NC.

Bradford’s background as a drumset player and a drum corps snare drummer is a persistent influence in his classical works, which are rich with rhythmic complexity, energy, and an insistence on grooving.  His works for steel pan band introduce a unique stylistic approach to the ensemble, combining classical and modern percussion ensemble writing techniques with the accessibility and excitement offered by steel drums.

Garrett Sanborne has been the Director of Percussion at Abilene High School since 2001.  He directs the Drumline, Percussion Ensembles, and the newly formed Steel Band.  He also teaches the beginner percussion classes at Lincoln, Mann, and Franklin Middle Schools.  He performs with the Abilene Philharmonic, plays drumset for AHS musicals, and plays steel drums in his spare time.

Mr. Sanborne is originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.  He holds two degrees in Percussion Performance: a Bachelor of Music from the University of Delaware in 1997 and a Master's of Music from the University of Akron , Ohio in 1999.  He recently received his Music Education Certification from McMurry University.

In 1996, Mr. Sanborne performed across the country on tour with the World Champion Drum Corps Star of Indiana and "Brass Theater III," the group which has evolved into the Broadway sensation Blast!  He was a member of the University of Akron Steel Drum Band, whose 1999 compact disc recording, "Live at E. J. Thomas Hall," was nominated for a Grammy.

Mr. Sanborne has been teaching percussion since 1994, and has taught throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Texas.  His areas of expertise include marching percussion, drumset, and steel drums.  He has also written dozens of arrangements for marching percussion, steel band, and mallet ensemble, for both high school and college ensembles.

Joe Moxon (MM 1998 University of Akron, BM 1996 Miami University) resides in Akron, OH where he free lances and teaches private lessons.  His steel drum band, 7 Mile Isle, performs frequently throughout the year and their CD entitled Just Now features some of his compositions.
