Lord Melody’s self-deprecating song "Mama Look a Boo Boo" (Boo Boo Man), became a hit during the 1956-57 American "calypso craze." Today this new arrangement of this classic calypso tune is featured on the University of Akron CD, By Request.
Here are some performance notes for this new arrangement. The form is Intro, ABCD, d.s., back to A, then BCD, Coda. You can also repeat letter D four times the last time through the tune instead of taking the regular repeat sign. There is also the option of soloing over the form ABC, and then the full band comes back in at letter D. There is no drum set part so the drum set player can use the Tenor part for form and kicks. At measure 33 the downbeat is only played the first time because of the lick that proceeds the downbeat, any other repeated time through letter D omit the downbeat. The tempo for the song can be anywhere from half note equals 90-100 bpm. Hope you and your band enjoy this exciting new arrangement of this calypso classic!Difficulty: Medium (great for high school and college steel bands)Instrumentation: tenor/double tenor/double seconds/cello/bass/ drum set
