Much to the annoyance of my elementary school teachers, I was often creating different items that I could wear to school. As I grew older I guess you could say I was always expressing my creativity through some form of art. In 2005 I had the opportunity to take a silversmith class. I learned basic techniques that allow for metalwork jewelry, and created my first steelpan inspired ring. Although I loved this creative work, my priority was music and time did not allow for other endeavors. In the back of my mind I new I would revisit this art form someday. So in 2010, with some left over silver and a new found interest in beaded jewelry, I fell right back into the metalwork jewelry.
All of the pieces in my line are inspired by the steelpan and are individually hand stamped. No two pieces are exactly alike. This line is in the beginning stages so eventually you will see bracelets, frames, brooches and many other steelpan inspired items.
I love creating "things" be it music, a piece of jewelry, a bag, or a drawing. I also love to be inspired and I think the best way to do that is to appreciate and seek out other peoples art and to also see the beauty in yourself, others and life. Thank You. Malika
